Set on the north corner of the Place de la Concorde, where it meets the Rue Royale, Hôtel de Crillon looks out toward the Luxor Obelisk across the square. The Tuileries and the Champs-Élysées lie within a few minutes on foot. The obelisk stands in full view of the facade.
The building dates to 1758, raised as a private mansion for the Duc d'Aiguillon by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the same architect who laid out the square around it. It became a hotel in 1909 and has kept that role since. A four-year restoration, completed in 2017 under Rosewood, returned the stone facade and gilded salons to their original state. Rooms and infrastructure were updated throughout.
The hotel holds 124 rooms and suites, two of them designed by Karl Lagerfeld, and grand salons, once the reception rooms of an eighteenth-century household, still host events beneath their original ceilings. You cross the lobby beneath the same proportions Gabriel drew for the square outside. The obelisk remains visible from the front steps.
