Robben Island

A UNESCO island nine kilometres offshore, visible from the hotel's own rooftop

Robben Island lies just 9 km off the Cape Town coast, close enough to pick out from the hotel's rooftop pool deck. UNESCO listed the island as a World Heritage Site in 1999 for its political history: Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years as a prisoner there under apartheid. The crossing and guided tour together take up half a day, and demand is high enough that the hotel recommends booking well ahead through its own team.
